The most significant generalization that can be made about railroads and transportation on the eve of the Civil War is that this new method of transporting goods would help the north to victory. Railroads were everywhere as demonstrated on the map. They could deliver many goods at a fast and effective pace. Railroads had paths to every city town and state. This connected the entire north together allowing them to help each other out in their upcoming battle against the south.
