Find and trace the route of the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1860. What was its point of origin? What w as it terminus? What major cities and towns did it pass through? What railroads provided services to the following places: Allentown, Carlisle, Ephrata, Erie, Harrisburg, Jenkintown, Reading, Susquehanna. The Pennsylvania Railroad in 1860 started in Philadelphia. This is believed because Philadelphia was always considered as on of the largest cities. Also, on the map it shows numerous railways at Philadelphia and branching off to different destinations. Leaving Philadelphia the first major city that the Pennsylvania Railroad goes through is Lancaster. Later it goes through Dillerville, Columbia, Harrisburg, Huntingdon, and Altoona, It’s terminus city is Pittsburgh. Many railroads were in existence in 1860. One railroad the existed in this time was the Lehigh Valley railroad which provided service to Allentown. Carlisle was provided service from Cumberland Valley Railroad. Ephrata was the Penns. R. R. The Erie was the Clev. & E.R.R. Jenkintown was the Phila., G. & N.R.R. Reading was the Phila. & R.R.R. Susquehanna N.Y. & ERIE R.R..
