Jefferson's and Hamilton's views on human nature and individual freedom are very different from one another. So different that it is almost scary. Jefferson's feelings were based all on opportunity for the advancement of democratic principles. Jefferson had faith in the american people and feared that a government that was uncontrolled would be the destruction of the rights of the people. Jefferson also felt strongly about public officials following the constitution to the letter. He felt that the constitution was the wisest document that was ever presented to man. He felt very strongly about this and as a result he and Hamilton did not quite get along. The preservation of liberty was far more important than the protection of property and civil order. So as you can see Jefferson was clearly for the people and the rights of the people. He was not just for the wealthy or rich but for the betterment of all. Hamilton was different from Jefferson in the way he thought and advocated things. For instance Hamilton advocated a strong central government, and he also refused to follow the words of the constitution. He is known for referring to the constitution as a shilly shally thing, which probably means what it says, he thinks it is silly and does not care for it. Also with advocating a strong government he advocated stronger ties with Britian because he admired the culture. Hamilton unlike Jefferson felt the only path to the republican system was to flatter the prejudices of people and excite the jealousies, and bring civil commotion. Hamilton also believed that in order for the republic to survive the monied classes had to take part. Hamilton felt that the most important people were people who worked the soil and not those who labored in factories. Hamilton, when you get down to it really did care for the actual reaponsibility for the goverenment and the people, he cared for himself and the personal benefits he could recieve. These two men have done alot for this country, but I'm not to sure if the both of them were thinking if you will with the best intentions.
