A great migration that took place during the eightienth century was slavery. African slavery was the transportation of Africans to the americas in order to work for the european settlers. Black traders held fairs where they would sell about 1200 to 1500 negroes to the europeans. These europeans before purchasing would examine these slaves health. They usually checked for deformity and diseases. Once being purchased, slaves were handcuffed in twos by their wrist and legs. Men, women, and boys were all held in different compartments. These slaves were placed in such tight areas that there wasn't even enough room for them to turn. Every morning the slavers would check the chains on the slaves to make sure they couldn't escape and cause a revolt. The slaves were fed only twice a day. The european slave traders expected too little from the slaves. The bare food and little air and room they gave them was what they thought were enough to keep the slaves well, but to find that many slaves died everyday. Most of the slaves upon the ship killed themselves unwiling to give their lives to another person. Death was their only way out. Diversity, one of the themes of our class, plays an important role. In America there are a various mix of races including, hispanics, blacks, whites, and indians. This establishes diversity which is a fundamental basis for the America in which we live in.
