What does it mean to say that Europeans “conquered” the land and the peoples of North America?

With the exception of the English and French the Spanish were the conquers. The Spanish were the first to claim the New World for themselves. With the claims of conquering the land they also took the wealth and even had the people as servants. They would plunder and overtake such tribes like the Aztecs all in the name of God and his majesty. Such Spanish conquers were known as conquistadors. They raided and plundered all the Indians around Mexico, the Caribbean islands, and Cuba. The were merciless and more advanced then the ill fated Indians. They saw the New World not as it belonged to the Indians but instead of theirs to take and exploit. The Spanish crown renamed the New World, Mexico as New Spain. Spain was really made prosperous with the conquistador’s dominance in the New World over the Indians. They received tons and tons of silver and gold from the invasion of the New World. The Spanish were also colonizing in the New World. Hundreds of thousands Spaniards flocked to the New World in search of success and prosperity. That too itself was a downfall for Spain. They would later become too dependent on the New World
