Grading

In addition to attending class, you must complete all of the course assignments.     Note: Anyone who fails to complete all of the assignments for this course will receive a failing grade!

Assignments: This course takes a slightly different approach to assignments than what you may be used to, so please read carefully.

The semester is divided into seven two-week blocs.  During each of these blocs you will complete two very short (one page or less) writing assignments designed to help you make sense of the material we are covering and to make it easier for you to participate in our discussions.  In addition to these short assignments, you will write two more extended essays (four to six pages in length).   One of these essays is due at the mid-point of the semester and the other is due at the conclusion of the semester, so you can look at them as take-home examinations.   There are no in-class examinations.  Because discussion of the material is so intrinsic to what we are doing, your participation in class and on-line contributes heavily to your final grade.

Grades for this course will be calculated as follows:

Class participation (includes attendance) 25%
Short papers (combined) 25%
First longer paper 25%

Second longer paper

25%

Remember!
Anyone who fails to complete all of the assigned work
will receive a failing grade for the course.
