Sarah Shurts

Sarah ShurtsSarah Shurts received her PhD in modern French history from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2007. Her research and publications focus on the construction of intellectual identity on the French extreme Right during the periods of active intellectual “engagement.” She has been an assistant professor of history at Bergen Community College in New Jersey since 2010. She became interested in Tuning because she serves as assessment liaison for the history department, coordinates articulation agreements with local high schools, and advises the History club. In all of these pursuits she has been concerned by a disparity between what historical study can provide for students and the community and what we tend to measure, promote, and publicize. Hopefully, this Tuning project can help our department better express what we value in the study of history and how this generation of students can benefit from it as scholars, professionals, and active citizens.
