Anne Hyde

Anne HydeAnne Hyde is professor of history at Colorado College where she teaches a broad range of US history, race and ethnic studies, and American Indian history courses. She now serves as the director of the Crown Faculty Center to support faculty in teaching, research, and campus leadership. She has taught Colorado College and NEH summer workshops for K-12 and college teachers, and works with local public historians on historic preservation projects. She is the author of Empires, Nations, and Families: A History of the North American West, 1800–1860 (Univ. of Nebraska Press, 2011) winner of the Bancroft Prize and Pulitzer finalist. She has also written An American Vision: Far Western Landscape and National Culture (NYU Press, 1991), with William Deverell, a two-volume textbook for undergraduate classes; The West in the History of the Nation (Bedford Books, 2001); and, most recently, Frémont’s First Impressions: The Original Report of His Exploring Expeditions of 1842–1844 (Bison Books, 2012).
