Into the Classroom! Tips and Tricks to Succeed as a Teacher
Myrna Ivonne Wallace Fuentes, October 2004
Myrna Ivonne Wallace Fuentes, chair of the AHA’s Committee for Graduate Students writes:
At the January 2004 annual meeting in Washington D.C., the Committee for Graduate Students sponsored a workshop on graduate student teaching. The attendees were treated to three outstanding presentations from three dedicated teachers: Terry Seip, Peter Filene, and Rudolph Bell. Afterward, the audience and presenters shared their teaching concerns, tips, and war stories. The teaching workshop was informative, encouraging, and a lot of fun. Although we cannot provide our larger graduate student membership with their own question and answer session with Terry, Peter, and Rudy, we can provide you with distillations of their presentations. We hope you find them as useful to your teaching experience as the attendees did last January.
We also look forward to seeing many of you at the 2005 Annual Meeting in Seattle, where the sessions that the CGS will be sponsoring include a workshop on graduate student funding and a roundtable on The Education of Historians for the Twenty-first Century.
