Plagiarism Investigations

Alan Unsworth | Nov 1, 2003

To the Editor:

I am very disappointed in the Professional Division's decision to discontinue AHA investigations of plagiarism. If we lack resources for this work, we could try to raise more; but once an organization loses its credibility, the process of regaining it will be long and hard. A recent Chronicle of Higher Education article on this topic pointed out that the national organizations for sociology, psychology, and political science are still committed to fighting plagiarism. Given the academic scandals of the last two years, can the AHA afford to stand aside?
