Doctoral students receive special training within our department by taking classes for professional development in writing and teaching as well as a course that provides students with the practical knowledge needed for obtaining an academic position.
Financial Aid
New doctoral students have an opportunity to receive fellowships that help with tuition along with departmental teaching assistantships.
Degree Requirements
Doctoral students must take a course on historiography, take three two-three quarter research seminars, pass a written translation of a foreign language and take a course from each member on their committee. A student will sit for three written exams, each three hours in length and sit for a two-hour oral. Students must present a prospectus at the time of oral examination.
