Each year the University of Waterloo offers a number of Teaching Assistantships, to qualified incoming Master's students. Teaching assistantships are payable over two terms beginning in September. Appointment for a second term is contingent on satisfactory performance of duties in the first term. Marking positions may also be available and are paid on a per student basis. If the Program recommends your admission, students will be informed explicitly at the time an offer of admission is made of the minimum level of support that they can expect. As well, each campus has scholarship and bursary funds that can increase the amount of support substantially; successful applicants will be automatically considered for appropriate awards. Incoming graduate students may also qualify for a University of Waterloo Entrance Scholarship in the amount of $3,000 ($1,000 per term payable over three terms). An A- (80) overall average is required. Two or three University of Waterloo Entrance Scholarships in the amount of $5,000 per year (over three terms) may be available for outstanding students with "A" averages. Beginning May 2003, the Vice-President, Academic and Provost and Dean's Council established an incentive award valued at up to $10,000/year for recipients of Tri-Council Scholarships. Originally called Graduate Incentive Awards (GIA), as of May 2005 they were renamed President's Graduate Scholarships and now include 2005/2006 OGS recipients. The President's Graduate Scholarship is provided in each year the eligible scholarship is held while the recipient is registered in a Master's or PhD program at the University of Waterloo.
