New PBS Series Explores Classic Works of Art
A new four-part television series, Culture Shock, prepared for PBS by WGBH Boston, will examine classic works of artin literature, music, film, and paintingthat have engendered both controversy and acclaim. Each program will examine the cultural conditions that lead artists to create and audiences to react. The four programswhich will be broadcast on January 26 and February 2, 2000, beginning at 9 p.m. EST (check local listings)are: "Born to Trouble: Adventures of Huckleberry Finn"; "The Devil's Music: 1920s Jazz"; "Hollywood Censored: Movies, Morality, and the Hollywood Production Code"; and "The Shock of the Nude: Manet's Olympia."
