Join us for an exciting NEH Summer Institute at The Museum of Chinese in America (MOCA) in NYC! Entitled, "The Chinese Exclusion Act and Immigration in America.” This two-week Institute will provide K-12 teachers with the opportunity to learn from leading scholars in the field and work with primary materials and artifacts examining the impact of exclusion in the United States. Teachers will explore new perspectives on the history of immigration, citizenship, and examine questions such as: What does it means to be American? What does it mean to be excluded from the United States? And what does it mean to a nation’s self-image when it profiles for differences in appearance?
You will get a $2,100 stipend for their participation during the Institute dates – July 10-22, 2016. Applications are due March 1, 2016.
Please apply and encourage your fellow English and SS teachers to apply – or those working in schools who are interested in the topic and committed to implementing the content in their school and communities. Full-time and part-time classroom teachers and librarians, home schooling parents and other K-12 school personnel, including administrators, substitute teachers, and classroom professionals, are all eligible to apply/participate!
