Author Talk: The Politics of Business and the Business of Politics in America

Benjamin Waterhouse from the University of North Carolina presents “Lobbying: The Politics of Business and the Business of Politics in America,” drawing on his recent book, Lobbying America: The Politics of Business from Nixon to NAFTA. Drawing on Hagley’s collections, he will discuss how business leaders responded to the crises of the 1970s by seeking to change the federal government’s policies. His lecture will explain the powerful lobbying efforts of corporate CEOs, along with their frustration at finding themselves just one voice among many vying for influence, winning some battles but still seeing important goals unfulfilled.  The event is held at the Hagley Soda House auditorium.  It is free but reservations are suggested.
