The Trial of Antigone
Thursday, March 10, 2016
6:30 PM Trial Begins
At The Field Museum, Chicago, IL 60605
Tickets $100
Sentenced to death for defying King Creon and burying her brother, Antigone’s case marks a turning point in western thought, when law and its inherent flaws are examined and analyzed. What are historically known as natural law vs. positive law, or natural (inalienable) rights vs. legal rights, strike at the heart of the legal divide in “Antigone.”
These re-enacted “trials” offer a unique opportunity to navigate some of humanity’s perennial questions, and watch Chicago’s star litigators debate issues that lie at the foundation of our lives.
At the Field Museum’s elegant James Simpson Theatre, you, the citizen, will be asked to decide whether Antigone’s action was treason or an act of duty?
The National Hellenic Museum’s Trial Series highlights the enduring relevance and value of Greek philosophy and thought. It is a unique opportunity to watch some of America’s foremost legal minds and theorists contemplate and debate evolving issues and perennial questions that have concerned humanity for thousands of years.
