AHA Council
The primary governing body of the association is the Council. The committees and divisions of the Association all report to the AHA Council with information, proposals, and recommendations within their areas of expertise. The AHA Council conducts the business, manages the property, and cares for the general interests of the Association. The Council fixes the amount of dues and the date on which any change of dues becomes effective. It appoints such committees, as it deems necessary. The Council calls an annual meeting of the Association. It reports to the membership on its deliberations and actions through the publications of the Association and at the business meeting.
The Council is comprised of:
(a) The president, president-elect, immediate past-president, and three vice-presidents.
(b) Nine members who have been elected to one of the divisions of the Council.
(c) The executive director, editor of the American Historical Review, and controller as nonvoting members.
To transact necessary business between meetings of the Council, there shall be an Executive Committee composed of the president, president-elect, immediate past-president, and three vice presidents.
