Suite Reservations

Suite reservations can only be made by calling the hotels directly and cannot be made via the Internet or the chains’ toll-free numbers.

The number of suites available at each property is limited by the total supply at each hotel—each has provided its complete inventory for the AHA meeting. Although hotels are within walking distance, a shuttle will run between the Marriott and Hilton every fifteen minutes beginning Thursday, January 3, 1:00 p.m. through Sunday, January 6, 2:00 p.m.

Click here for rate and inventory information at each hotel— Updated 12/05/07

  • Marriott suite: Inventory sold out; to change or cancel an existing suite reservation, call 202-328-2000 and ask for the Reservations Department.
  • Omni suite, Inventory sold out; to change or cancel an existing suite reservation, call 202-756-5125 and ask for the Reservations Department.
  • Hilton suite, call 202-797-5826 between 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., Monday–Friday
  • Embassy Suites, call 202-857-3388

The Embassy Suites Downtown Washington, D.C. was added to the AHA’s block principally to ensure sufficient suite inventory for institutions conducting pre-arranged interviews in suite parlors. The hotel is a full-service all-suite hotel, and inventory set aside in the AHA block has a private bedroom and a spacious living room. A one-bedroom suite is $144. For institutions with a larger search committee, boardroom suites are available for $164. A complimentary shuttle will operate between the Embassy Suites and the Marriott.

Please note that suites at these four hotels are for overnight, though the parlor may be used for job interviewing. These suites differ from Job Register parlors rented by the AHA to institutions for interviewing in one-half day (8:00 a.m.–12 noon and 1:00–5:00 p.m.) increments (with a maximum two one-half day time periods). Forms to rent these Job Register parlors will be posted on the AHA web site no later than October 15 for downloading. If an interviewing institution will need to schedule interviews for more than the two one-half day time periods permitted by Job Register parlors, then it should contact the Housing Manager to rent a parlor as guest accommodation for the days needed to accommodate its interview schedule.

Ground Transportation

The nation's capital is served by three airports, the closer Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA), located in Arlington, Virginia; Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD), approximately 30 miles west of Washington; and Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI), approximately 38 miles north of Washington.  All airports offer excellent ground transportation throughout the day with service available between airports to the hotels.

National Airport is served by taxi, Metrorail, and van.  A taxi ride from the airport to the hotels takes approximately 15 to 30 minutes, depending on time of day and traffic, and costs from $15 to $20.  Metrorail, the region's rapid transit system, has a station adjacent to the airport, and the Marriott and Shoreham hotels are within a block of the Woodley Park-Zoo/Adams Morgan Station on the Red Line ($1.35 off peak and $2.10 peak; 30 minutes travel time); the Washington Hilton is four blocks from the Dupont Circle Station on the Red Line ($1.35 off peak and $1.90 peak; 25 minutes travel time).  The SuperShuttle provides door-to-door van service to and from the airport to downtown hotels—the fare is $13 one-way.

Dulles Airport is served by taxi, motorcoach, rail, and van.  Washington Flyer Taxicabs exclusively serve Dulles International Airport with 24-hour service from the airport.  Approximate one-way fare to Washington, D.C. range from $50 to $58, and travel time is approximately 45 minutes.  Washington Flyer motorcoach service runs from Dulles to Metrorail’s West Falls Church Station on the Orange Line; the trip takes 20 minutes.  From this point, travelers can continue by Metrorail or by taxicab.  The one-way fare is $9 and roundtrip is $16.  The SuperShuttle provides door-to-door van service from Dulles to downtown hotels.  The fare is $26 for the first person with $8 for each additional person.

BWI Airport is served by taxi, van, and rail.  The airport is a 45-minute cab ride from Washington with an approximate fare of $55.  SuperShuttle offers door-to-door van service from the airport to hotels.  The fare to downtown Washington hotels is $31 one-way.  An Amtrak train station also serves BWI with more than 40 Amtrak and Maryland commuter (MARC) trains to Washington’s Union Station.  The airport provides shuttle service from its terminals to the BWI Rail Station.  Coach-class service from BWI to downtown Washington ranges from $24 to $32 roundtrip depending on time of travel, with a travel time of 30 minutes.  Upon arriving at Union Station, attendees can take a cab or Metrorail to hotels.

From Union Station (Amtrak):
Washington’s Union Station is located at Massachusetts Avenue and First Street, N.E.  A cab ride from Union Station to the hotels takes from 15 to 20 minutes and costs from $10 to $15.  Union Station also has its own Metrorail Station.  The trip, directly by the Red Line to Woodley Park-Zoo/Adams Morgan Station (for the Marriott and Omni Shoreham) and to Dupont Circle (for the Hilton Washington) takes about 10 minutes and costs $1.35 to $1.50.

For additional information, see the September issue of Perspectives and the print and online program, to be posted online in mid-October.
