Have You Made Your Arrangements
for the 124th Annual Meeting?
The meeting registration form was included in the print versions of the September, October, and November issues of Perspectives on History. Members and nonmembers can also preregister online via links from the AHA’s web site; a printable PDF of the Registration Form can be downloaded and either faxed to (202) 544-8307 or mailed to 400 A Street, S.E., Washington, D.C. 20003.* Attendees must preregister to access accommodation information. Preregistration must be submitted no later than Friday, December 18. After this date, onsite registration rates will be assessed.
The AHA has reserved blocks of rooms at four hotels: Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego (headquarters), the San Diego Marriott (co-headquarters), the Hilton San Diego Bayfront, and the Embassy Suites San Diego Downtown. The hotels are located on San Diego Bay, adjacent to the Gaslamp Quarter, a historical neighborhood that is San Diego’s dining, entertainment, and urban shopping district.
The rates at the Hyatt and Marriott are $129 single and $168 double. The rates at the Hilton are $125 single and $155 double. The rate at Embassy Suites is $159 single and double. All hotels have an additional person charge of $30. Guestrooms and suites are subject to city and state occupancy taxes, currently 12.50 percent plus $0.23 assessment per room, per night. Rates are in effect three days before and after the meeting dates of January 7–10.
Standard Room Reservations: Once preregistered, attendees will be provided with information to make a standard room reservation through the San Diego Convention Center Corporation’s convention housing reservation service, referred to as San Diego…accommodating YOU. Reservations for standard guestrooms can be made via the Internet or via the housing service’s toll-free number.
Suite Reservations: Suite reservations for the Hyatt, Marriott, and Hilton can only be made by completing a suite reservation form, available through the meeting registration confirmation. Suites for these three properties cannot be made via the Internet or directly with the hotels. Embassy Suite reservations can be made in the same manner as standard room reservations—toll-free number or via the Internet.
The cutoff date for the AHA’s official blocks at all hotels is December 7, 2009. After this date, remaining inventory in each hotel’s block will be released and rooms will be available at the AHA’s convention rates on a space-available basis at the time of reservation. If all hotels sell out, the AHA will secure additional hotel rooms.
Association Travel Concepts (ATC) is the official travel agency for the annual meeting and can book air or train fares and car rental. Attendees will fly into San Diego International Airport (SAN). Those traveling by train will arrive at Santa Fe Depot, located in Centre City (downtown) San Diego at 1050 Kettner Blvd. Airfare, train, and car rental discounts apply for travel Monday, January 4 through Thursday, January 14, 2010. Attendees can contact ATC between 8:30 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. EST, Monday through Friday. Fares can be booked with ATC online www.atcmeetings.com or by e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org. Discounted fares and rentals are also available by contacting carriers directly: American (ID Number A6210AH; 800-433-1790); United (ID Number 510CK; 800-521-4041) Amtrak (Convention Fare Code X92Y-967; 800-872-7245), and Hertz (ID number CV#031C0014; 800-654-3131).
