Annual Meeting

The Job Register: Information for Interviewers

AHA Staff | Oct 1, 2007

The American Historical Association's annual Job Register provides institutions and candidates with facilities and administrative support for position interviewing during the AHA annual meeting.

You must register for the annual meeting in order to participate in the Job Register, the Exhibit Hall, or any of the sessions.

Location

Job Register interviewing tables will be located in the Marriott's Exhibit Hall C. Job Register administrative services (Information Booth, c.v. collection, and Electronic Search Committee Locator System) will be located in the Atrium Foyer outside Exhibit Hall C. The Job Register will also provide private interview rooms in the Marriott.

Job Register Hours

Thursday, January 3, 12:30–6:00 p.m. (prearranged interviews only). Friday and Saturday, January 4 and 5, 9:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. Sunday, January 6, 9:00 a.m.–noon.

Reserving Space at the Job Register

Reservation forms will be available on the AHA web page at www.historians.org/annual starting October 15, 2007. All interviewing institutions must have a search committee member complete table or room reservation forms to reserve one table per search and/or one room for one day only at the Job Register. Be sure to complete the forms, particularly the section for address, contact person, telephone and fax numbers, and e-mail address. Please type or print clearly, and be sure all information has been checked carefully before sending in your reservation request. In addition to submitting the Job Register reservation, all search committee members need to register for the annual meeting in order to use Job Register facilities.

Job Register interview rooms and tables are reserved on a first-come, first-served basis. Reservations received after the deadline of November 15, 2007, may not be considered. We recommend that interviewers overestimate the number of interview time slots they will need, as the rate of responses from job applicants tends to be higher than anticipated.

Interview Room Reservations. Due to space limitations during the annual meeting, we must limit each institution to one interview room for one day only, available in half-day or full-day increments, unless extra rooms become available. Half-day reservations are available in four-hour blocks from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Full-day reservations are available from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The rooms are small conference-style, and ideal for interviewing. Each room is equipped with small tables, chairs, bathroom, and closet. Prepayment is not required. Invoices will be mailed in mid-December.

Keys for interview rooms should be picked up at the Job Register Information Booth. Do not ask hotel staff for room keys.

Table Reservations. One table per search may be reserved at no cost for each day of the Job Register.

Interviews in Non-Job Register Facilities. The AHA will collect c.v.'s for institutions conducting interviews outside of designated Job Register facilities, include position listings in the Job Register Handout, and provide candidates with all information given to the Job Register staff. To take part in this arrangement, you must agree to comply with the AHA's Guidelines for Interviewing, and review the AHA's policy towards interviews in non-Job Register locations on page 5 of the Job Register reservation forms. It is the responsibility of the interviewers to ensure a professional environment. Please let Job Register staff know the hotel and room number as soon as possible by visiting the Information Booth; calling (571) 437-6609; or e-mailing Liz Townsend.

C.V. Collections

If you wish the Job Register staff to collect c.v.'s for you, please indicate this on the interview room or table reservation form and attach a copy of the job description(s) to the form when you submit it. If you are holding only prearranged interviews, you do not have to send a complete job description. However, please list the field and specialization so the position can be identified.

Noninterviewing Vacancy Announcements and Late Notices

Send in a noninterviewing job announcement by November 15, 2007, and we will include it in the Job Register handout. We will also have bulletin boards available for posting late-breaking notices. Bring four copies of each late-breaking job notice to the Job Register Information Booth for posting.

Interview Room Cancellations

Interview room reservations can be cancelled until December 15, 2007. After this date, invoices will be mailed and no refunds will be made.
